Smeetham Hall Barn is 16th century and has been tastefully converted into a stunning wedding venue for civil ceremonies and wedding receptions. Licensed for civil weddings, our beautiful wedding venue and the picturesque grounds provide a reathtaking background for perfect wedding photographs, making it the ideal Essex wedding venue. We believe that your wedding day should be the most amazing day of your life and we want you to have everything as you think it should be. At Smeetham Hall you will encounter a relaxed, friendly atmosphere in a magnificent country setting. When you choosethe Barn as your wedding venue, it is available exclusively to you from Friday 9.00am until
Sunday 12 noon for a Saturday wedding. We feel very strongly that Smeetham Hall Barn is yours for longer than just one day to give you ample time to prepare for your special day. There is a fully equipped caterers' kitchen so you can be assured that whichever of our recommended wedding caterers you choose, they will have the facilities to provide you with a first class wedding feast. We have a bride and groom's room which has been set aside so you may change before your civil ceremony, or indeed, change out of your wedding clothes before leaving for your honeymoon. Perhaps, more importantly, it allows the bride and groom a little privacy on their wedding day. Smeetham Hall Barn benefits from an idyllic location in the heart of the Essex countryside, yet thanks to excellent transport links, it iswithin easy reach of London, Hertfordshire, Suffolk and Kent. Sudbury railway station is about two miles away from Smeetham. Ample surfaced parking is available close to the Barn.

 A stunning, high vaulted ceiling with original timber beams on full show make this a truly magical venue for your wedding The Barn is perfect for an intimate wedding or something more sumptuous. It is large enough to cater for up to 150 guests for asit-down wedding breakfast but is also ideal for smaller, intimate weddings of 30 or 4There is a large dance area with plenty of room to dance the night away to the band or DJ of your choice. A PA system linked to a cordless microphone and cd player is available. The barn isheated to ensure the temperature is perfect. You are welcome to supply your own alcohol/soft drinks at no extra charge for the day and we have a fully licensed bar for the evening which is local pub prices and there is no charge for the staff. The barn is wonderful for winter, candlelit wedding ceremonies and receptions.

 

The marquee, perfect for weddings and other events Adjoining the barn, in a sheltered courtyard, is the silk lined 800 sq ft marquee. The marquee can hold up to 150 guests and is an ideal reception area for drinks and canapés. If you choose a civil wedding, which is held in the Barn, you walk down the aisle and straight through to the marquee where the caterers are waiting to serve you and your guests the drinks that you have supplied. If you have chosen a church wedding, then the bridal party drive around to the French doors of the marquee where, again, the caterers are waiting for you. You could also enjoy a string quartet playing throughout your reception. In the evening, the marquee becomes a quieter area where, if they so choose, guests can sit quietly and chat - away from the band or DJ in the barn.

The courtyard is perfect for barbecues, hog roasts and the more informal wedding. The marquee isheated to ensure the temperature is perfect.

Smeetham Hall Barn is set in the rolling countryside of the Belchamps, on the Essex/Suffolk border. Here you can enjoy the peace and tranquility of a rural setting. When you hold your wedding at Smeetham Hall Barn the venue is exclusively yours, offering you privacy for your entire wedding day. Our 16th century barn is set in many acres of beautifully well kept grounds. There are picturesque gardens with colourful borders and perfect lawns all around a willow bordered lake stocked with carp. The grounds provide a peaceful backdrop where you can enjoy a drink or quiet stroll or simply just sit by the water and take in the setting. The Church

Churches available near Smeetham Hall Barn: Although Smeetham Hall Barn is a local authority approved wedding venue, and we hold many civil wedding ceremonies here every year, we appreciate that some of our couples prefer a more traditional wedding ceremony and choose to get married in a church. We highly recommend the use of our local church, St Andrews in Bulmer, Essex. The church is a grade 1 listed building with a large churchyard which offers those wishing to marry in a church a warm welcome and is beautifully set in an idyllic Essex village. St Andrew's is less than a mile away from Smeetham Hall Barn and so is perfect not only for your wedding guests to travel to and from easily but also makes any of the romantic, open top, traditional wedding travel options much more attractive and accessible.
